Romano-Germanic-Museum

The Romano-Germanic Museum of the City of Cologne is one of the most important museums in the city. The collections are drawn from the archaeological heritage of the city and its environs, from prehistory to the early Middle Ages. Highlights are the largest collection of Roman glass in the world as well as outstanding collections of Roman and early medieval jewellery.
We designed the logotype and were commissioned with the revision of all digital and analogue media as well as the creation of a corporate design manual. The design of the logotype is a symbiosis of the Latin letters from the base of the Trajan Column in Rome – a highlight of Roman type design – and the inscription of a tombstone found in Cologne that was carved by a stonemason of Greek origin.

The website is based on a container system of coloured areas that are arranged differently depending on the size of the screen. The website has a static image section and a dynamic exhibition section that is edited by the museum itself with the help of a content management system.

The corporate design manual, which is intentionally kept open, only defines basic rules on colours, fonts and business stationary in addition to the layout of exhibition catalogues and posters.
